After Supreme Court ruled that National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) will be sole criteria for admission in all graduate medical and dental courses, the Maharashtra government is planning to organise coaching classes for state’s students.
In its brief order, the court said that all those candidates who appeared for NEET Phase-I on May 1 would be eligible to appear for Neet Phase-II, but they would foreclose their candidature of the previous examination. In response the Supreme Court gave it assurance to consider the proposal for holding NEET in Tamil, Telugu, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi and Urdu. The States felt that students will be put to hardship as the common entrance test of States are held in vernacular languages, unlike NEET that was held in English and Hindi. Those who hadn’t applied for it, were allowed to sit for the second phase of the NEET exam on July 24. To this extent the earlier orders stand modified. “Only NEET would enable students to get admission to MBBS or BDS studies”. “The State law providing for carrying out entrance test was supported, rejecting the argument that the State had no legislative capability on the subject”. At the same time, it was held that the admission involved two aspects.
“We wanted NEET and wanted irregularities and malpractices that pervade in medical education in the country to be stopped, but the sudden bringing in of the exam has left us anxious”.
The order brought a close to the proceedings that went on for days in which private colleges and States opposed NEET’s implementation this year.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the agency that conducts NEET, informed the court that over 6.5 lakh students appeared for NEET-I.
4 Common all India test can’t be held bad only because it affects the rights of states & pvt colleges.
“It means that only state subjects can apply for the examinations to different medical courses conducted by the NEET”.

As per the deadline set by the apex court in its previous orders, the combined result will be declared on August 17, in order to complete the admission process by September 30.
