The bodies of 68-year-old Robert Gordon and his wife Sharon, 57, were identified by the coroner after police were called to their home in Orange Park Acres at approximately 5 p.m.in 1400 block of North Kennymead Street.
NASCAR and Baja racing legend Robby Gordon spoke to the press today about the tragic and sudden deaths of his father Robert “Baja Bob” Gordon and stepmother Sharon.
Said Robby Gordon, “I’m so sad and I can’t believe it”.
Gordon’s off-road racing team was scheduled to be in Orange County this weekend. Police say a rifle was also found. That friend apparently found the bodies and called 911 to the residence in Orange County, Calif., about 30 miles outside Los Angeles. Yet, no further details about the incident on what the motive or what triggered the father of the former auto racing star, to commit the heinous crime, have been released.
He is the father of former NASCAR driver Robby Gordon. When police showed up the bodies were found in an upstairs room of the large home in the city of Orange. “I grew up on this property my whole life”, Robby Gordon, the racing star, stated.
Robby’s father Robert (Bob) was a well-known and successful racer in his own right- you don’t earn a nickname like “Baja Bob” without putting some numbers on the scoreboard. “Thinking of the Gordon family and friends”.
Cops are not saying what they believe happened inside the home – but Gordon told The OCR, “The truth will come out”. “Hope they find strength and support”, he said.
Robby has two sisters, one of whom is the wife of open-wheel racer Ryan Hunter-Reay and recently had a baby.
“Heartbreaking news this morning”. Gordon last raced in the Sprint Cup in 2012. He was a full-time driver early last decade and finished a career-high 16th in the points standings in 2003 driving for Richard Childress Racing. He started the Indianapolis 500 on 10 occasions, competed in the NASCAR circuit for over 20 years and also participated in off-road racing events. He almost won the 1999 Indy 500 before running out of fuel in the closing laps.

Other NASCAR drivers began reacting to the news on Thursday, including Dale Earnhardt Jr., who tweeted “Praying for friends @RobbyGordon @BeccyGordon and the Gordon family during this hard time”.
