Starz released the first trailer of their upcoming series “American Gods” at Friday’s Comic-Con panel. However, it’s soon revealed that Wednesday is an incarnation of All-Father Odin, who’s traveling America recruiting his fellow forgotten deities to wage an epic battle against the new American gods – manifestations of modern life and technology, like the internet, media and credit cards.
The casting of Chenoweth marks a reunion between the actress and Fuller, as she was a regular on one of his previous shows, Pushing Daisies. Ricky Whittle’s Shadow Moon looks to be the viewer’s proxy into this mysterious world of new and old gods, and series creator Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies) looks to be digging deep to bring Neil Gaiman‘s Hugo and Nebula Award-winning novel to life.
Chenoweth will be playing Easter, formerly known as Ostara, goddess of spring. David Slade (“Hannibal”, “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”) is directing the pilot and additional episodes. Later in the panel, Fuller was asked about the liklihood of any other Hannibal stars coming to American Gods.
American Gods premieres in 2017 on Starz.
