Neil Young removes music from streaming services (for real this time)
So here’s one data point, via DashGo, a distributor that specializes in getting indie music to digital outlets: DashGo CEO Ben Patterson says that Apple Music streams represent about 4 percent of the volume of streams he’s seeing from Spotify. The results show Apple underperforming but don’t necessarily indicate a general trend.

And in its initial messaging, Apple Music seems to be targeting a very broad swath of music fans – which is why its dustup and subsequent patchup with Taylor Swift was such a big deal.
Neil Young fans looking to stream his music will hard pressed to find much selection.
While there’s unfortunately no easy way to bring over full Spotify playlists to Apple Music, a tool called STAMP will scan your Spotify library and add all of your music to Apple Music’s main library.
The service is being offered free for three months in a trial period for all subscribers, so the only ones who can view the usage and interaction of users with the service are the record labels that license their music to the service.
All of these albums were recorded by the musician for Geffen Records. Taking that into account, Apple Music subscribers accounted for 13 percent of the streams that Spotify users do. Spotify has over 75 million active users across the globe, while it’s estimated that Apple Music has 10 million so far.
When you first open Apple Music, you’re given the option to pick which music genres and artists you like.

There are a couple of reasons why it might be this way (apart from Apple Music being a new product). Apple Music playlists are now limited to those curated by experts as opposed to users of the service.
Apple has finally bowed to consumer demand and entered the music streaming business, in the hope that doing so might offset the decline in download sales and perhaps even reassert its dominance at the top.

Then again, you might think that the people eager to try out a new subscription music service would be aficionados who would be the most interested in listening hard-to-find stuff.
