Nepali woman gang-raped in moving auto

Bringing back memories of Park Street rape incident, a 25-year-old was allegedly gangraped at the Sector V area in Salt Lake. The vehicle then whisked away and the accused took turns to rape her before dropping her at a deserted place.

The girl, who had gone to a multiplex at Sector-V to meet a friend, was waiting on the road for transport when a man approached her and asked her if she was looking for someone. The victim, originally from Nepal and has been staying in Baguiati for the last three years.

The miscreants later left her near Baishakhi in Salt Lake and fled. The man answered in the positive and asked her to wait a bit. She was rescued by a mobile unit of the police in the early hours today after a taxi driver drew its attention, officials of the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate said.

According to the police complaint lodged by the girl, she was thrown out of the auto after being sexually assaulted by a group of youths who forced her inside the vehicle when she was about to enter a restaurant.

A case of gang rape has been started against four “unknown men”. “He then called up someone”, a senior police officer said.

The girl has been admitted to Bidhannagar sub division hospital and a medical test has been done on her. Sources said that prima facie doctors have confirmed rape. “We have registered a case and begun an investigation in the matter”, said Kankar Prasad Barui, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detective Department), Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate.
