Netflix Adds Cellular Streaming Options Plus 3D Touch Support
Starting in version 4.5, there is a new “Cellular Data Usage” option in “App Settings”.

“In terms of bitrates, that now amounts to about 600 Kilobits per second”, Eddy Wu, Netflix’s director of product innovation, explained Thursday in this blog post. So if you have a large phone with high-resolution display, or tablet, then you might want to push that higher – which you now can choose to do. You will now be able to change the settings in the app to use more or less data, depending on what kind of data plan you have from your wireless carrier.
The global streaming provider Netflix just rolled out a new feature called cellular data controls.
Netflix has allowed fixed-line desktop customers to manage their data consumption for some time via a control panel embedded in the desktop client that lets users choose between a low, medium, high, or automatic stream quality.
Netflix will now let users all over the globe adjust the quality of its television and film streams over mobile connections, giving them the choice of using more data for a higher quality video or less data if they can accept video streams of a lower quality.
Thursday’s announcement represented Netflix delivering on plans for “data saver” features for mobile apps in May. This helps customers stay under restrictive data caps, but the one-size-fits-all policy prevented customers from boosting the quality of video.
In March, the streaming-video giant confirmed that it limits the quality of its video when customers are streaming over a mobile network. For more information about how your new cellular setting will interact with account settings, check out this article in our Help Center.
