If Beasts emerges as a contender, it will become the streaming service’s first hopeful in the narrative feature categories.

Elba is best known for star-making turns as a drug-dealer in US TV series the Wire and as troubled cop John Luther, but this latest role appears to be the most sinister to date. However, today, more details on the release were announced, notes TheWrap.
Based on the novel by Nigerian author Uzodinma Iweala, “Beasts” follows a child soldier (played by Abraham Attah) fighting in a civil war in an unidentified African country.
If there’s one thing that can be said of the new season of True Detective, it’s that the absence of director Cary Fukunaga – who shepherded the show’s acclaimed first season – is being keenly felt this go-round. Beasts Of No Nation will open in Landmark theaters in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC, Atlanta, Indianapolis, Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Houston, Dallas, Denver, Seattle, San Francisco and San Diego.
It is also set to be screened at both Venice and Toronto global film festivals in September.
The movie is produced by Elba, Fukunaga, Amy Kaufman, Daniela Taplin Lundberg, Riva Marker and Dan Crown for Red Crown Productions. Jeff Skoll, Jonathan King, Donna Gigliotti, Elizabeth Koch, Kristina Kendall, Bill Benenson, Laura Bickford, and Todd Courtney executive produced.

Netflix also released the first teaser trailer for the film on Thursday, which can be seen below. Idris Elba plays the warlord who takes Agu under his wing, and molds him into a soldier.
