Members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, organizers of the Golden Globes, recognized a slew of new acting talent, such as Rachel Bloom, 28, star of the CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, who landed her first major nomination.

Ricky Gervais will return as host for the Globes on January 10. The Weinstein Company had been promoting Mara in the supporting actress category, even though she won the best actress award in Cannes for the same role.

The Golden Globes TV categories this year had some… unexpected names.

Mad Max: Fury Road, aside from its best drama nomination, also earned a nod for director George Miller – his first Globe nomination ever. Judith Light (“Transparent”) and Uzo Aduba (“Orange is the New Black”) both secured nominations in the overstuffed category for supporting actress in a series, limited series or TV movie. But this year, Netflix has finally ended their streak with the most nominations for their originals series.

Grossing over $375 million and receiving critical acclaim, don’t be surprised if this hit action film starring Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy receives more than a few nominations at the 2016 Oscars.

Next in line for the most nominations was Adam Kay’s “The Big Short”, a financial comedy.

Mark Ruffalo gave one of the year’s finest performances in the ensemble drama “Spotlight” as the excitable reporter Michael Rezendes, but the HFPA went a different direction in honoring Ruffalo, picking out his performance as a bipolar adult in the little-seen indie “Infinitely Polar Bear”.

The best screenplay nominations went to “Room”, “Spotlight”, “The Big Short”, “Steve Jobs” and “The Hateful Eight”.
