Netflix, Inc Has Room For More Original Series; Says Report
The report is based on the company’s new TV Intelligence product, now available for subscription, and offers insights into consumer preferences for non-traditional video content including on-demand and over-the-top content (OTT). As a result, legacy research models can not provide the broader entertainment industry with the behavioral insights they need to make critical business decisions in an increasingly competitive market. “Before this report, global data on viewership trends on popular streaming providers such as Netflix was unavailable to the wider industry. TV Intelligence will fill a clear decision-making gap for studios, analysts and producers who have always been forced to make critical business decisions without meaningful understanding of consumers’ true interests, preferences or behaviors”.

Netflix continues to release very little data on how many people watch its content. OITNB Season 4 launched June 16 and dominated viewership globally, spiking by 544% from May to June.
The findings from 7Park Data, from users that collectively stream more than 1 million hours of content each day, found that Orange Is The New Black was by far the most-watched TV show on Netflix during the period between May and June, the monthly span used by the company to initiate coverage.
However, according to new study, it’s when a new season is about to premiere on the platform that viewership for that specific series increases.
Previous seasons of original shows also were found to have increased in viewership leading up to new seasons as users catch up or review what came before. They placed third and fourth in the top five list, behind established production houses 20th Century Fox Television and Warner Bros.
Genre Analysis: Determine catalog and viewing levels, including original and library content at a genre level and monitor rising and declining sub-genres. The study attributes this to the fact that Pretty Little Liars already aired on cable TV in earlier 2016, while Orange Is the New Black launched all episodes at once to encourage binge-watching.
7Park Data will release regular insights reports from its TV Intelligence product.
7Park said in its report: “Library content comprises a substantial majority of the viewership”. Countries profiled in the report include: Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Finland, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Mexico, Netherlands, Sweden, and the United States.
