The streaming giant has acquired Mascots, a new original film from Christopher Guest.

He’s mocked the world of hair metal (“This Is Spinal Tap“), small town theater (“Waiting For Guffman“), dog shows (“Best In Show”), and the movie industry itself (“For Your Consideration“).

It’s also expected that Mascots will enlist cast members who have been frequent collaborators with Guest, including Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, Jane Lynch, Jennifer Coolidge and Parker Posey.

This continues Netflix hiring brand-name talent to fill their original programming.

Sent from Netflix through a cryptic invitation, the film is titled “Mascots” and will follow a “group of unusual men and women” taking part in the 8th World Mascot Association Championships for the crown of “Best Mascot in the World”. Beasts of No Nation gets an Oscar-qualifying theatrical run starting on the same day it hits Netflix, while Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon II is aiming for a day-and-date IMAX release.
