Netflix Lands Adam Wingard’s ‘Death Note’ Starring Nat Wolff
Netflix is in final negotiations to acquire the rights for Adam Wingard’s American live-action adaptation of the popular Japanese manga/anime series Death Note, Variety reports.

“Fantastic Four” writer Jeremy Slater will pen the script, with “You’re Next” helmer Adam Wingard as director. Wingard was assembling the cast when WB put the project into turnaround, freeing it up to go to another studio.
Meanwhile, Netflix will roll out new comedy documentary Hannibal Takes Edinburgh on April 8, while two new seasons of Project MC2 will also launch this year. Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jason Hoffs and Masi Oka will produce, with Brian Witten and Doug Davison serving as executive producer.
Death Note revolves around a young man who discovers a notebook with the power to kill someone by scrawling his or her name onto the pages hence the series title.
This adaptation is set to beginning filming in June and looks to be the latest in big name films being produced by Netflix, such as Brad Pitt’s War Machine and Bright. Morbid stuff, no doubt, and it’s a setup that spawns a cat-and-mouse game between him and a reclusive police officer. The Death Note anime and manga series both have devoted followings in the United States and other countries around the world.

Created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, the horror series follows Light Yagami, “a high school student who is about to learn about life through a book of death”.
