“Today you are witnessing the birth of a new global Internet TV network”, said Hastings in the company’s press release.

The company has also added Arabic, Korean and Chinese to its language options, that’s despite Hastings admitting that they aren’t actually live in China – yet.

Hastings spent the early part of the keynote offering a history lesson on the innovations that have driven TV over the years, recalling it was eight years ago that Netflix started streaming.

Netflix says that its service “won’t be available in Crimea, North Korea and Syria due to USA government restrictions on American companies”.

The company doesn’t break out subscriber totals for countries besides the US, though it has said it has more than 5 million subscribers in South America. Netflix is live-streaming its own CES 2016 keynote, on its own website, in true Netflix style. Netflix will produce original series in French, Italian and Portuguese next year.
