“We’ve just heard about the nomination and just like our film, we’re speechless”, says Richard Starzak and Mark Burton, writers and directors of Shaun the Sheep Movie.

SNUB: Robert De Niro, “The Intern” De Niro’s performance in the Nancy Meyers crowd-pleaser is tailor-made for the Golden Globes’ musical/comedy category.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association may not have recognized stars like Ellie Kemper, Emma Roberts or Rachel McAdams for the superb acting in their respective roles-but the least we can do is honor their contributions to the world of style.

The Golden Globe winners will be announced at a televised ceremony in Los Angeles on January 10, hosted by comedian Ricky Gervais.

To get audiences to tune in on their big night this year, the HFPA sprinkled their nominations with as many glitzy stars as possible, as they always do. On Wednesday, the show was nominated for four NAACP Image awards, including outstanding comedy series.

In the drama category, Cate Blanchett is pitted against her co-star Rooney Mara for best actress.

Finally “Penny Dreadful” – a show that manages to stay under the radar despite getting great reviews- got itself a nomination for “Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Series- Drama” for actress Eva Green. So it’s not a clear harbinger for what is to come when the Oscars are announced, but does provide some direction. They are joined in the stiff competition by Saoirse Ronan, Brie Larson, and Alicia Vikander. Not only did programming from cable/premium/streaming services dominate this year, they also shoved old-school networks aside in the comedy category. Both were nominated for best actress in a comedy, and their films _ “Spy” and “Trainwreck”, respectively _ will compete for best comedic film.

It’s also worth noting that Starz performed very well on Thursday.

Carell was nominated for a Golden Globe award for best actor in a motion picture musical or comedy for his role in the film on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015.

Mark Ruffalo’s nomination for “Infinitely Polar Bear” – a movie nearly no one saw – over “Spotlight” also befuddled.

Al Pacino (“Danny Collins”), Maggie Smith (“The Lady in the Van”), Lily Tomlin (“Grandma”), Jane Fonda (“Youth”) and Helen Mirren (“Trumbo”) all earned nods.

The Globes’ lead actor group features Bryan Cranston for “Trumbo”, Leonardo DiCaprio for “The Revenant”, Michael Fassbender for “Steve Jobs”, Eddie Redmayne for “The Danish Girl” and Will Smith for “Concussion”. Aside from “Carol”, which leads the nominees with five nods, “The Big Short” is close behind with four. The third nom for that film, by the way, was for Ridley Scott as Best Director – Motion Picture. And the film didn’t exactly wow critics.

The movie has been nominated in the best motion picture? drama alongside “Mad Max: Fury Road”, “The Revenant”, “Spotlight” and “Room”.

Much like cable TV series steadily began to steal the spotlight from broadcast offerings in the early 2000s, online TV series are beginning to show their own muscle.
