Roy Lee (The Ring) and Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes) are producing Death Note with Jason Hoffs and Masi Oka. What do you think about Willem Dafoe’s casting?
According to Mashable, Dafoe will be providing the voice of Ryuk the Shinigami in the film, which also stars Nat Woolf, Margaret Qualley, Keith Stanfield, Paul Nakauchi and Shea Whigham. Jonathan Eirich and John Powers Middleton are executive producing with Miri Yoon and Brendan Ferguson.
“I am honored to be working with this great cast”, Wingard said, “and I look forward to bringing Tsugumi and Takeshi’s unique story to a global audience”. He opens it to find instructions on how to kill people with a pen by knowing only their name and their face.
Netflix’s R-rated Death Note adaptation is expected to bow in 2017. In addition to being a supernatural horror, Death Note is also a gripping police procedural, as Light’s own father is tasked with finding the serial killer who the public believes is behind the “Death Note” s sudden string of murders. Much like the Japanese live-action adaptation, it appears as though Ryuk will be CGI. It was originally set up for Warner Bros. before moving to Netflix. Despite being a shinigami, Ryuk is kind of smarmy and a bit of a deadpan jokester.

“Our vision for Death Note has always been to bring this captivating story to the screen for its longtime manga fans and to introduce the world to this dark and mysterious masterpiece, “stated the producers”.
