The 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards will be held on January 10, 2016, at the Beverly Hilton and hosted by Ricky Gervais.

Don’t cry too much for Ruffalo, however: He picked up a nomination for best actor in a comedy and musical for his performance in Infinitely Polar Bear.

How is it possible for Inside Amy Schumer to earn Emmy gold and still get shut out of both the SAG Awards and Golden Globe Awards nominations?

– Actor, Drama: Bryan Cranston, “Trumbo”; Leonardo DiCaprio, “The Revenant”; Michael Fassbender, “Steve Jobs”; Eddie Redmayne, “The Danish Girl”; Will Smith, “Concussion”. Landing four nominations were Adam McKay’s finance farce “The Big Short, ” the Apple co-founder drama “Steve Jobs, ” and Alejandro Inarritu’s frontier epic “The Revenant“.

Overall, what the list of award nominations shows is that streaming services’ content no longer just rivals that of TV broadcasters, it’s actually besting them in terms of quality of programming. Room, an independent film based on the best-selling novel of the same name, is also up for Best Motion Picture – Drama. George Miller’s “Mad Max: Fury Road” was named best film by the National Board of Review.

For drama series, the HFPA nominated three newcomers: Fox’s smash hit soap opera “Empire”, USA’s paranoid thriller “Mr. Robot“, and Starz’s time-travel adventure “Outlander”.

FX’s “The Americans”, which seems to singularly suffer the role of best stealth drama (having been ignored for almost every award in its three seasons, other than the prestigious Peabody), maintained that status by escaping Globes notice again this year.

“The Big Short”, which takes a unusual take a look at the housing bubble collapse that led to the 2008 D.R. recession, led the comedy nominees with 4 nods; greatest comedy, screenplay and actor for Christian Bale and Steve Carell.

In the race for best comedy or musical film are The Big Short, Joy, The Martian, Spy and Trainwreck. Yes, the Golden Globes have earned a rather goofy reputation, but you can’t accuse them of just copying last year’s list with a tweak here and there, the way it often feels like the Emmys do. Alicia Vikander will compete for both best actress, drama, for “The Danish Girl”, as well as her supporting role as an artificial intelligence in “Ex Machina”.

We’re also seeing a lot of television shows entering the competition with American Horror Story: Hotel and American Crime leading the pack.

While many were tipping Rampling for a Best Actress Oscar nod for her performance, she and the film as a whole was overlooked when the nominations were announced.

Best animated feature nominations went to “Anomalisa”, “The Good Dinosaur”, “Inside Out”, “The Peanuts Movie” and “Shaun the Sheep”.

David O. Russell’s matriarch portrait “Joy”, won nods for best picture, comedy, and best actress for Jennifer Lawrence, a Globe victor the last two years.
