Nevada Deputy Killed Responding To Domestic Disturbance
A sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed while responding to a domestic-violence call in Nevada, officials said Saturday. Minutes later, a person exited the home, and shot on the officers, killing one.

Howell was a nine year veteran of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office having started serving his community on March 17, 2006.
“He was awesome, he was quiet, he was sweet, he was such a good soul and a genuine human and a great cop”, said Retired Deputy Sheriff Dina LeGros.
“At 2:18 a.m., Carson City Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the report of a domestic battery involving physical injury at the 4100 block of Montez Drive in East Carson City”.
Because of protocol used in any police-related shooting, an outside agency is taking the lead in this investigation, in this case the Reno Police Department.
“Carl was your poster child of a police officer”. Officers who arrived at the scene found a woman who had suffered an injury.
Officials said Howell encountered 30-year-old Jonathon Pope, who appeared to be armed.
Additional units responded to the area and evacuated three children and one adult from the home.
A vigil will be held at Carson City’s Nevada Law Enforcement Memorial in Carson City on 8 p.m. Saturday.
This was the first death of a Carson City deputy ever since 1867.
Hundreds of law enforcement vehicles from Carson, Lyon, Nevada Highway Patrol and many more led a processional from Dayton to Stagecoach to pick up Howell’s family members.
A neighbor, who was afraid to give her name said she awoke to hearing gunshots and peered out a glass door where she saw the deputy fall to the ground after the man fired shots.
“Why this went so wrong, so fast – we don’t know yet”, Furlong told the Associated Press.
“The heart of our community goes out to the family of the slain officer who was killed in the line of duty earlier this morning”, Crowell said.

“We will never get over the loss of Carl”, one officer said at the vigil, according to the Review-Journal.
