Neville looks to pick up the Valencia pieces at Betis

Former Spurs boss Juande Ramos is the latest man linked to Neville’s post, but the former Manchester United defender is expecting to hold on to his job despite admitting that it was “completely unacceptable” that Valencia are yet to win any of his nine league matches in charge. “I have been judged in six weeks”. The biggest problem I have is that the results are not there.

“I don’t believe we are getting the results that reflect the improvement in this team”, Neville said.

FC’s Sid Lowe discusses Gary Neville’s managerial future following Valencia’s 7-0 loss to Barcelona Wednesday.

“What I believe is that if I look at the evolution from when I started, you needed to be a football man. You needed to make all the decisions purely based on your judgement and your assessment”.

The shambolic display at Camp Nou provoked the ire of Valencia’s supporters, but Neville has embraced their passionate anger and hopes his side can produce something worthy of the fans’ dedication at Real Betis on Sunday. “We just have to make chances and take them”. I would say that it was a tight game, that the lines are fine, but that you have to win it in both boxes.

“Statements are weak, at this moment words are weak, the only thing that can help are results”, he said.

“It’s a moment that everyone needs to stay together”, Neville said.

Quoted on superdeporte.es, he said: “I do not think in those terms (of the game being must-win)”.

Neville has endured a hard time in Spain since being appointed as Valencia manager until the end of the season by Peter Lim, who has also invested in Salford City alongside the Neville brothers, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Ryan Giggs. We know the coach well, but that’s up to the club.

“Every defeat feels like a punch in the face to the fans, to the players to myself…”
