New 007 theme from Sam Smith shakes and stirs

Sam Smith’s James Bond theme song is set to become the first in franchise history to hit the number one spot in the United Kingdom charts.

Smith is the first solo male British act to perform a Bond film’s theme song since 1964, when Tom Jones was heard over the opening credits of Thunderball.

So far, it has allegedly sold twice the amount of its closest competitor, Justin Bieber’s ‘What Do You Mean?

It may come as a surprise that no Bond theme has ever reached number one in the United Kingdom before.

The writing’s on the wall is already inviting comparisons with Adele’s 007 theme “Skyfall” which landed her an Oscar for best song.

The official chart will reveal whether or not he has made it on Friday October 2 although Smith, who co-wrote the song in 20 minutes, has been self-deprecating about his prospects.

Little Mix, who released new single Love Me Like You on the same day as Sam, have debuted at number 14.

Spectre producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson have predictably given “Writing’s On The Wall” high praise, branding it “one of the greatest Bond songs of all time”.

Caracal features another collaboration with Smith as well as tracks with The Weeknd, Gregory Porter, Kwabs, Lorde, and Miguel.
