New Apple TV may search like your Roku, start at $149

The rumored next generation of the Apple TV may be unveiled as early as September 9 at Apple’s “Hey Siri, give us a hint” event.

According to key sources, the keystone of the tech giant’s new set top box will be a significant feature of universal search, enabling search across multiple streaming video services, along with the company’s iTune store.

This would allow owners to perform a single search for a piece of content and see listings within Netflix, Hulu, HBO, iTunes and everything in between. While that’s not a lot of storage space, it should let you install a few games on your device… and you won’t really need any more storage for media because the Apple TV is created to stream music, videos, and other content from the internet (or from a nearby device on your home network using the Apple AirPlay wireless streaming protocol).

The fourth generation Apple TV is said to feature universal search based on Siri.

Even though the new iPhones are expected to shoot in ultra high-resolution, the Apple TV is sticking to 1080p.

Beyond those features, there was some reiteration of previously leaked information in today’s reports.

All these features support the idea that Apple may see the new TV device as a full-fledged platform, somehow similar to the iPhone.

Meanwhile, the report also notes that the new Apple TV is getting a price hike.

All in all, it appears the Apple TV is planning to steal the show when Tim Cook and co take the stage this time next week.

BuzzFeed also claimed the upcoming Apple TV will start at $149 and should soon have that oft-rumoured subscription internet TV service. Pricing for the new box should start at $149 (£97) for 8GB or $199 for 16GB.
