New Apple TV price rumored to rise significantly

9to5Mac reported that Apple will price its fourth generation Web TV set top box, which hasn’t been upgraded since 2012, at between $149 and $199, a far cry from the $99 it asked for the 2012 version and the $69 at which the unit now sells.

With the official debut of the next-generation Apple TV less than two weeks away, sources have provided additional details on Apple’s pricing, availability, and product lineup plans for its set-top devices, 9to5Mac reports.

Unless, of course, the Apple TV either streams all the digital free-to-air TV channels live or can receive them via an antenna connection, complete with recording capability direct to internal storage or to an externally connected USB 3.0 drive in addition to everything else it will be able to do. The next-gen Apple TV is also expected to be launched with refreshed hardware and more intuitive software.

Apple offered the Apple TV 1 in a 40GB and 160GB version priced at $229 and $329.

As far as appearance is concerned, new Apple TV 4 will resemble to the current model but it will be slightly wider and thicker, according to sources claims.

Except that even if the Roku did come with a built-in tuner, it still couldn’t run iPad-class apps and games completely outclassing anything available on anyone’s “Smart TV” platform, nor are these devices usually running with first rate browsers, email or anything else.

Despite the rollout of the new Apple TV, the company said that they would not be introducing their Apple Internet TV service at the press event.

This will make the Apple TV a universal device taking control over homes. According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is still working on securing deals with content providers that would give traditional cable companies a serious run for their money.

The new Apple TV will release in October under $200, report says
