New Auburn QB Johnson viewed as strength not question mark

Gus Malzahn sure was a talkin’ at Day 1 of the 2015 SEC Media Days. “It’s a man’s league …”

“The chances of a team coming into our state and getting a player we or Alabama want is slim to none”, said Malzahn.

From a very literal standpoint, absolutely.

Auburn has been ranked in the top five by some experts while LSU has hovered near the top 10 and the teams are scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. clash in Week 3 on September 19 in Tiger Stadium on CBS.

According to Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn it’s still a resounding yes. As long as the SEC is the SEC, and Alabama and Auburn are still Alabama and Auburn, there aren’t a lot of local recruits who are going to decide to leave the state when they have offers from the Tide and the Tigers.

In recent months the topic of satellite camps ignited once again as coaches from the Big Ten (Harbaugh, James Franklin at Penn State, Mike Riley at Nebraska and Urban Meyer at Ohio State) ventured into SEC and/or ACC terriroty to work at football camps. And he may well be right that he doesn’t have anything to worry about in terms of their impact on kids all but literally in his backyard staying home to play their college football.

It may have sounded a bit cocky but, for the most part, it’s also true.
