New auto Sales Growth Slows in Europe
The full list (see summary below), which names 32 different Audi, SEAT, Skoda and Volkswagen models, includes a spread of TSI and TFSI petrols and TDI diesels that are now available under the different manufacturer banners.

For the first 10 months of the year, registrations were up by 8.2 percent, translating into 11.5 million new cars on European roads.
Figures released Friday showed sales in the USA where the scandal first broke on September 18 were up 0.2 percent. Among the five major markets, Italy recorded the biggest rise, of 8.6%, followed by Spain with 5.2%. The EPA said earlier this month that another 10,000 cars made by Volkswagen and its Audi and Porsche brands may also have bypassed the tests, though Volkswagen did not admit at that moment.
German prosecutors are considering whether to open a new criminal investigation into Volkswagen AG after the carmaker said it found faulty emissions readings in gasoline-powered vehicles and more diesel cars as a manipulation scandal widened.
Volkswagen launched an ad campaign Sunday to apologize for cheating on emissions tests.
And for cars bearing the VW badge, sales fell 5.3 percent for the month.

New registrations in the EU were up 2.9 percent year-on-year, topping 1.1 million units, while sales in the EU plus the four-member European Free Trade Association (EFTA) bloc rose 2.7 percent to 1.14 million vehicles.
October was the 26th consecutive month of auto-sales growth, according to the ACEA, which compiles numbers from 27 of the 28 European Union countries as well as Switzerland, Norway and Iceland. Year-to-date figures are also down, 1.7 per cent to 8.26 million. Because diesels accounted for only about 20 per cent of Volkswagen’s USA sales, the effect of a halt in diesel sales is less significant than in Europe in terms of the absolute number of cars.
Europe’s largest automaker has been making slow progress in finding out who had knowledge of the rigging of diesel emissions tests two months after the manipulations became public in the United States and last week also admitted to cheating on carbon dioxide emissions certifications.

While US recalls of diesel cars fitted with “defeat device” software still haven’t been announced, Volkswagen has begun the process of trying to market its way out of the current emissions scandal.
