But this featurette is really created to lay the groundwork for newcomers and ardent fans alike, focusing instead on the troubled history of Luke Cage himself, who becomes imbued with powers that he didn’t ask for soon after falling in love with a gay woman. Harlem is where he’s hiding out.

The events of Luke Cage will eventually tie into The Defenders, the superhero team-up show that will also feature Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist. But soon he is pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city – forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.
