The premiere episode of “The Big Bang Theory” Season 9 saw Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki) becoming a married couple. “Because it was before he met Leonard”, according to the official synopsis. Everyone’s abandoning him, he says, from the newlyweds to ex-girlfriend Amy Farrah Fowler. Even after Sheldon so thoughtlessly involves Amy in his roommate shenanigans, she defends him later to Bernadette. Also, Howard and Raj form a band to play at the Comic Book Store, on The Big Bang Theory. Stuart was trying to get a musician to perform at the store so more people would come in. Raj convinces Howard to start a “filk” band, which plays folk songs of a….geeky variety.

This is probably because Leonard still can’t fully commit to choosing his life with Penny over his life with Sheldon. What is their plan? They discussed song lyrics and put the lyrics to music.
Sheldon does begin to see it as an opportunity to find a roommate who could make Leonard jealous, but the roommate interview process is a tough one. Sheldon does not handle the news well at all. Penny and Leonard will alternate between sleeping at their place and Sheldon’s.
Left with nowhere else to turn after Hollywood actor Chris Pratt doesn’t answer Sheldon’s tweeted roommate proposal, Sheldon decides to go back in time, deciding to live like it’s 2003. While Sheldon and Leonard haven’t exactly grown as characters this episode, it’s fair to assume this temporary arrangement will be brought back later this season. She segues into a hard sell for Stuart to be a bonafide resident of apartment 4A.
On the lukewarm advice of Bernadette, Sheldon unhappily resigns himself the seemingly-inevitable. It gets worse when the duo find Sheldon sitting on lawn furniture in his apartment, using a flip phone!
Penny, who had been pushing Leonard to make a break, seems especially struck by Sheldon’s sad state. Leonard pointed out that he hadn’t left Sheldon and he only lived across the hall.
The episode ends with Raj and Howard playing their song in front of a live audience.
Later that night, Leonard mourns his previous living situation until Penny reminds him that he can eat whatever he wants, set the thermostat to whatever temperature he wants, and let his body tell him when he has to go to the bathroom. Howard said that Raj’s girlfriend “was breaking up the band”.

However, when he sees Leonard going to Penny’s apartment he questions why is he taking his stuff to Penny’s place. The songs of the pair will be based on Thor and Indiana Jones resulting into an interesting music which could be considered as “the nerdiest rock opera sound in the world”, Christian Today noted.
