New cases of E.coli at Chipotle
Many analysts believe that the developments is the latest bad news for Chipotle which has seen its sales plummet after the emergence of the larger E.Coli outbreak that has sickened 53 people in nine states.

Of the five new cases reported, one each are from Kansas and North Dakota and three from Oklahoma, the CDC said. Their symptoms began between November 18 and November 26 and all the individuals had consumed food from Chipotle within a week of becoming ill.
A new outbreak of E. coli at Chipotle Mexican Grill is being investigated by the Centers for Disease Control.
Federal food safety officials are investigating a second outbreak of a rare strain of E. coli linked to Chipotle restaurants, even as cases in an outbreak that started in Washington and OR continue to rise.
The CDC has been unable to single out the exact cause of the E.coli outbreak because of the way Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc.
Monsour Samadpour, president and CEO of IEH Laboratories, the company that helped Chipotle set up its new safety protocols, said the company’s new systems are unique and years ahead of what’s being done at other restaurants.
Chipotle has increased its food safety measures, which include testing all local produce before it gets to the restaurants and testing the quality of ingredients throughout their shelf life.
The wave of people getting sick after eating at Chipotle restaurants may be getting a lot of attention, but such outbreaks of foodborne illness are unfortunately pretty common. That was followed by a norovirus contagion at a Brighton location that sickened more than 140 Boston College students.
On Dec. 10, Chipotle shares surged after Chief Executive Steve Ells appeared on the “Today” show and said he was sorry for the people who have become sick.
Shares of Chipotle fell 6.1 percent before rebounding slightly to $521.50, a drop of 3.6 percent, in late trading Monday. “Generally speaking, I will say that our aim is to make things right for customers who were affected by an incident like this”, he said in an emailed statement.

Chipotle said the three most recently reported illnesses all stemmed from two restaurants: one in Oklahoma and one in Kansas. Small farms won’t be asked to cover the whole cost of this new approach to food safety.
