New CBS entertainment chief vows more prime-time diversity
Geller also confirmed that the current season of “Mike and Molly” will be the last. It was a real pleasure, and again, one of the first things I was able to do when I got this job was to hear that pitch and buy that show.

A CBS News panel at the TV Winter 2016 Press Tour in Pasadena Tuesday included Vice President of Programming, CBS News Chris Licht, from left, host Charlie Rose and President, CBS News, David Rhodes.
As previously announced, Mike & Molly is ending after its shortened sixth season, now airing. “I’m a big fan of reality”, he told the room, citing Survivor and Big Brother as “appointment TV” in his home. The show has recently begun its 13-episode final season, although CBS hasnt yet scheduled its finale.

Geller pointed out that he himself is diverse.
During his announcements, Gellar also spoke about the network’s late night talk show Late Show With Stephen Colbert, in which the Colbert Report host revealed his actual, non satirical pundit personality.
The Kings are stepping down from their current roles at the end of the series’ seventh season.
“We’re not casting color blind; we’re casting color-conscious – the right roles for diversity”, he said. Though Melissa McCarthy claimed she would love to continue working on the show for years, the stars contracts are up this year, and Melissa McCarthys A-list fame on the big screen would likely have inspired a case for more money. But instead of learning that bit of bad news from CBS, the network in charge of the show, it came from the shows stars themselves.
Geller cited the study from FX Networks that counted 409 scripted shows on the air.
Still a broadcast rating juggernaut, CBS could make the argument more than most for extending or cutting short its most recognizable hits, and with TCA putting the Eye in the limelight, CBS has good news and bad. Geller said he (and his mother) will miss Weatherly on the show, but that it was a decision beyond his control.

“We do have a series commitment to Kevin James”, Geller says. “They are hard at work on the fifth season, and we’re waiting to see if white smoke or black smoke comes up at the end”.
