New Chromecast With Better WiFi and Spotify Rumored to Debut This Month
Now, it looks like Google is getting ready to update the Chromecast before the month is out. However, the dongle will be available in three color options; and will also come with the “Fast Play” capability for establishing a quicker connection and for a smoother play of content when users are casting from their device. Until now, Chromecast users have had to make do with Google Play Music, but apparently we could soon see the vastly more popular rival music platform blasting out of your TV speakers too. We’re talking about two new smartphones, Nexus 5X and Huawei Nexus, but also about an updated Chromecast dongle, according to the latest rumors. In addition to the design, there are significant changes in the features also, for example WiFi connectivity is upgraded from existing 802.11b/g/n to a faster 802.11ac band. Leaked photos barely give a clear view, but it certainly looks different from the existing model.

9to5Google also reports there’s support for displaying content feeds on the Chromecast home screen.
One new feature is support for “content feeds”, which is a little vague but could well mean you’ll be able to have social media or image feeds on screen during the Chromecast’s screensaver mode. Well, we suspect it’ll be unveiled at a Google event on 29th September.
The audio features would pair nicely with rumored support for Spotify, which has been a major holdout for Google’s Chromecast and Cast for Audio.
According to 9to5Google, leaked internal documents reveal that Spotify support is definitely coming to Chromecast.
It plugs into your TV’s HDMI slot, and then needs a USB link either from your TV or the wall to power it. After that, you it connects to your phone via wi-fi.

The device – internally known by its codename “Hendrix”, supposedly – is said to support Sonos-style streaming from an Android device, Chrome browser, or other source.
