The press release states that “at approximately 11:44 pm 2007 Acura was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Sandmeyer Lane when it struck a tree”.
Accident investigators are working to determine the cause of the accident, but police suspect it appears to be drag racing.
Speed limits on roads where they are not posted are generally 25 miles per hour, Wilczynski said, adding that he does not believe the limit on the stretch where the crash happened is any higher than 35. “The people in the other vehicle, we want to talk to them”. According to police, two females were ejected from the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, Jimmy Pearce II of Zebulon, NC has been charged with three counts of second degree murder along with other charges in the incident. He was later transported via Medevac to a Jefferson University Hospital trauma center for surgery. Wilczynski said the identities of the deceased victims would likely not be released until Friday, but that they were from the area in the Northeast where the crash occurred. Philadelphia Police Captain Deshawn Beaufort warned about the dangers of drag racing, “It only takes a second to lose control of a vehicle and have a senseless loss of life”. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. One was a sixteen year old girl, but police do not yet know the age of the other victim.
