The disappointment is more amplified as this is the first quarter since the South Korean tech giant launched the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

Sammobile tracks Samsung phones and says that the Galaxy Note 5 will feature a 5.7-inch screen and utilize the S Pen stylus. Word is that Samsung plans to follow the same plan it adopted with Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge. This is the company’s seventh consecutive quarter of declining profits; revenues have also dipped 8.4%.

Moving on to the second handset, rumors claim that it’s going to be called Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and it will be a phablet version of the current dual-edged flagship. It now seems like Samsung overproduced the iPhone-like S6 and did not judge the large demand of the S6 Edge model.

While smartphones were once accounting for two-thirds of Samsung’s operating profit, the company’s smartphone division over the previous year has been challenged by major competitors, like Apple, and prominent China-based companies Xiaomi and Huawei, which have attracted consumers away from the company in that critical country. It is unsure if the Galaxy A8 will be made available outside China or if it will find its way to our shores and lets be honest, with that ultra-thin bezels it would be an welcome addition to its line up of Galaxy smartphones here, but we will have to wait for an announcement from Samsung Australia to find out if the Galaxy A8 will be coming here.

The sales of the S6 model was better than what the company garnered for the Galaxy S5 during the same time period back in 2014. Whether they will actually appeal to customers, however, remains to be seen.

According to research firm, Counterpoint, Samsung managed to ship around 6 million units till by the end of April, less than a month after the phones were introduced in the market.
