New England Patriots injury update: Tarell Brown moved to injured reserve

The New England Patriots placed cornerback Tarell Brown on season-ending injured reserve Saturday because of a foot injury.

Losing Brown increases the Patriots’ need for another cornerback.

Brown signed with the Patriots in the offseason and started the first two games of the season but suffered a foot injury that will end his season. He then sat out Week 3’s mathcup with the Jaguars.

Quarterbacks were 7 of 11 for 82 yards when targeting Brown this season.

“I didn’t want to come into a situation where I couldn’t really show my full potential”, Brown said. Melvin along with Malcolm Butler, Logan Ryan, and Justin Coleman are the only other cornerbacks on the roster, if Brown is a no-go for Sunday. Melvin was claimed off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday. He played against Dallas last weekend, but was on the injury report this past week and missed practices on Thursday and Friday. Could they be enticed to deal him if the Patriots called and offered a late-round draft choice? Cornerback Robert McClain, who went to camp with the Pats but was among final roster cuts, has two workouts this week but has not been contacted by the Patriots this week, according to a source.

The Patriots also signed offensive lineman Cameron Fleming from the practice squad.
