New English-language trailer for Russian superhero movie Guardians

While we here in the states have the likes of “Doctor Strange”, “Justice League’, and several others on the horizon, it seems that Russian Federation has made a decision to step up their game and release their very own superhero movie”. The new trailer for Guardians (or Zaschitniki in Russian) – which sees a group of Soviet superheroes unite to protect their homeland from a supernatural threat – landed online this week and it features, among other things, a bear-man wielding a machine gun.

The movie set to be released in Mother Russia on February 23, 2017, stars Anton Pampushniy as Arsus (the bear-man dude guy), Sanzhar Madiev as Khan, Sebastien Sisak as Ler, Alina Lanina as Xenia, Valeria Shkirando as Latina, Vyacheslav Razbegaev as Dolgov, and Stanislav Shirin as Kuratov.

Pretty insane right? I definitely get an Avengers: Age Of Ultron tone from the trailer, but it seems like the film aspires to be a crazy Russian action movie take on a comic like Watchmen.

You’ve met The Guardians of the Galaxy, this is not them. The film is directed by Sarik Andreasyan, who actually has an American credit with the 2014 film American Heist, which starred Hayden Christensen, Jordana Brewster, Adrien Brody, and Akon.

The “Guardians” will be released in Russian cinemas in late February 2017, while no dates have been set for an global release. At the same time, home-grown movies are also drawing Russians to cinemas, with Stalingrad, a 2013 release set during the homonymous World War II battle, being the highest-grossing Russian film of all time.
