New footage, concept art released for cancelled ‘Avengers’ video game
And the video game would have used a story and cast of characters that stood apart from the 2012 film.

The game would have followed Marvel’s Secret Invasion storyline fairly closely, though some changes would have been made for the game, written by Secret Invasion scribe Brian Michael Bendis himself. The Avengers game would have been built around a core roster of heroes, such as the Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America and Thor. In addition, the Skrull Queen, Veranke, would have shifted into Spider-Woman, while more concept art shows a rendering of Captain Marvel, who was another unlockable character alongside War Machine. As Unseen64 recounts inthis video from DidYouKnowGaming, The Avengers was both a throwback to an older era of console games and still something new and different.
New gameplay and details on Marvel’s cancelled “Avengers” game have hit the web.
An ambitious project from the get-go, it’s fascinating to learn of THQ’s failed attempt to bring Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to the video game space.
The game would have also put the Avengers’ team focus at the heart of the gameplay, allowing for up to four players to fight together locally or online, as well as including team-up offensive and defensive moves. The Avengers game was cancelled because THQ faced financial issues and not because of its quality. The game was originally supposed to be a third-person action game, but during the middle of its development, THQ chose to turn it into a first-person shooting game.
The game was scrapped and THQ eventually closed after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in December 2012.

Game developer Telltale Games announced back in April that it has partnered with Marvel teasing an upcoming game set to be released in 2017, but it is not clear if it will be based on the Avengers.
