New Ford Figo launched at Rs 4.29 lakh onwards

After the launch of the Ford Figo Aspire sedan in March, now comes the unveiling of its sister hatch, which in India will simply be called the Ford Figo. While we were excited for details of its features and specifications to finally be released, the news on the price list and bookings will be of more interest to many of you. Prices start at Rs 4.29 lakh (ex-Delhi). However, those are introductory prices to help make the new model sell in India faster, and so will likely increase after the holiday season. Ford has also brought in a 1.5-liter diesel unit, identical to the one on its compact sedan sibling. Nigel Harris, president and managing director, Ford India, said: “An outstanding value for money package, the new Figo is cleverly built to appeal to the Indian consumers who don’t want to compromise on looks, practicality, safety, cutting-edge technology and above all, exceptional fuel efficiency”. Ford will launch the Figo with three engine types – 1.2-litre Ti-VCT petrol, 1.5-litre Ti-VCT petrol and a 1.5-litre TDCi diesel. Ford will also offer an automatic petrol variant with a 1.5-liter unit that is mated to a 6-speed dual clutch transmission. Both these engines come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

The 1.2-litre petrol can give out 64.7 KW of power and 112 Nm, the 1.5-litre petrol does 82.3 KW and 136 Nm while the 1.5-litre diesel can give out 74 KW and 215 Nm of torque. In fact, the top-end trim will get 6 airbags, segment first. Like the Figo Aspire, the Figo too will come with a “plus” variant that will sport leather seats, the voice command Sync Applink and a multi-function display. It also comes with electrically adjustable ORVMs and a flat folding rear seat.

Inside, the Figo gets an all-black theme with silver inserts around the cabin to liven it up. The auto derives its design from the Figo Aspire sub-4 metre sedan. The Figo also comes with Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS), which provides lighter steering effort at low speeds – for parking and in-city maneuvering – and heavier, more precise feel at high speeds for greater stability and confidence on highways. However, market leaders in the small auto segment such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motor have not made any moves in this regard so far.
