New Hampshire Ranked Happiest State in New England

After recent research proved that money can lead to happiness, personal finance website WalletHub chose to take a closer look at what makes people happy.

The state ranked first in work environment, second in “community environment” and fourth in “emotional and physical well-being”. New England swept the top five safest states: Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and ME, in order.

According to the personal finance website WalletHub, South Dakota is the 9th happiest state in America.

Some of the other Louisiana highlights – we had the second-lowest Hedonometer Ranking, falling just above OR; the fourth-highest Obesity Rate ahead of West Virginia, Arkansas and MS; the third-lowest Sports Participation Rate, ahead of Arkansas and MS; and the 5th-highest Number of Work Hours. The top state was Utah.

Taking a look at more specific factors, the Aloha State, although pricey, had the lowest depression rate and one of the lowest obesity and divorce rates.

WalletHub says South Dakota’s divorce rate is 8th, volunteerism rate is 4th and our hedonometer ranking, based on social media comments over the last thirty days, is 14th.

So which state should we be looking toward for tips on how to improve our Happiness? Minnesota ranked above average for income growth rate, coming in at No. 20, and Minnesota’s long-term unemployment rate earned it a spot at No. 22.
