New Hartford Police investigate suspicious death at St. Luke’s
A suspicious death of a 19-year-old boy and an incident on Oneida Street are under investigation today.

Bruce and Deborah Leonard, whose 19-year-old son Lucas died Monday from blunt force trauma, appeared in court on manslaughter charges.

The six church members were arraigned Tuesday and sent to Oneida County Jail. Bail is set for $100,000.
Lucas Leonard was transported in a private vehicle to a local hospital on Monday. All pleaded not guilty. The Leonards’ residence was being investigated as a secondary crime scene.

According to CNYCentral.com, Joseph Irwin, 26, of Chadwicks, David Morey, 26, of Utica, Linda Morey, 54, of Utica, and Sarah Ferguson, 33, of Clayville, were all charged with second-degree assault. He said police are waiting for an autopsy, which is scheduled for Tuesday, to determine an exact cause of death. Bail for each was set at $50,000. Several church members were interviewed, and several children were turned over to child welfare officials. Bruce Leonard’s lawyer said it was too early to comment on details of the case.
