NWS says 4 to 8 inches of snow could fall in areas under a Winter Storm Warning, while 2 to 5 inches could fall in areas under a Winter Weather Advisory.

Winter Storm Mars slammed into the New England coast on Monday, bringing heavy snow and strong winds, and other parts of the eastern United States are expected to see rain and snow from a second storm emerging from the Midwest. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. Starting off Monday we will have temperatures close to our daily lows with a bit more in the way of sunshine.

Flurries on and off with very light snow through Monday night could linger into the Tuesday morning commute, as well, but there aren’t expected to be any significant problems on the roads.

The Jefferson Post will update as further details become available. Higher elevations could see up to 7 inches of snow. Snow is expected to begin at 4 a.m. and intensify at 8 a.m. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

The snow slowly spread north past Boston by mid-morning and threatened to fall straight through the night, forecasters said as police and elected officials urged residents of Massachusetts, Rhode Island and CT to avoid unnecessary travel.

The snow was not expected to be as heavy as a storm that dumped more than a foot of snow in parts of the state Friday. Winds will be strong through the day. We’ll be noticeably cooler with morning lows around 20 and highs only in the mid 20s. Precautionary/preparedness actions… A Blizzard Warning is issued when sustained winds or frequent gusts over 35 miles per hour are expected with considerable falling and/or blowing and drifting snow.

Cloudy skies will take over in the evening, and in the overnight hours a light snow should arrive after midnight.

Mostly sunny, with a high near 18. Low pressure approaches from the west and will be a slow moving system so it will be a long duration snow event. Up to 3 inches of snow is possible around Cashiers.
