New Jersey police officer found shot to death in vehicle

Condolences have been pouring in for the Sayreville Police Department as word spread of the officer’s death Monday morning.

SAYREVILLE, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey police officer has been found dead from a gunshot wound in his vehicle in the parking lot of a closed movie theater complex.

The Middlesex County prosecutor and the Sayreville Police Department were investigating the shooting.

The identity of the officer, who was not on-duty at the time of the incident, has not been revealed.

Investigators from the prosecutor’s office and Sayreville Police Department were on scene near the entrance of the movie theater for hours.

According to unconfirmed reports from NJ.com, the body of the unidentified male officer was found inside his personal vehicle, which was parked in parking lot of the Amboy Multiplex Cinemas.

Crime scene tape was wrapped around utility poles in the front of the theater, which has been closed since 2005.
