The video below shows Bear Grylls jumping out of a plane and then using a smartphone app to reorganize the seats inside the new Land Rover Discovery in mid air. Slated to make its global reveal at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, the next-generation midsize SUV will embody the brand’s drive to “Go Above and Beyond” according to Land Rover. Land Rover will also expand the Disco family by adding a third body style later on, while the Discovery becomes the first Land Rover to get the SVX treatment from Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations.

“Land Rover is proving why the New Discovery is the ultimate family SUV”.

Previous reports indicate the new Discovery utilizes Jaguar-Land Rover’s newest modular platform, the same that provides for the current Jaguar XJ, the full-size Range Rover, and the Range Rover Sport.

More than 1.2 million Discovery models have been sold since it went on sale 27 years ago.

More on the 2017 Land Rover Discovery will probably be revealed before the official debut in Paris on 28 September.

Land Rover will no doubt tout some off-road credentials as a standout feature.

There will also be the option of seven seats, so the auto will retain the practicality with which the Discovery name has become synonymous.

The production version is expected to feature an interior similar to that of the current Discovery Sport, with a 2.0-liter turbo inline-four most likely the base engine.

Despite the move upmarket, the new Discovery will still be incredibly capable away from paved streets.

Judging by this teaser image just released by Land Rover, that “odd man out” time for Land Rover’s 7-seat SUV is almost over. Although we can only see the front end for now, you can expect the new “big” Discovery to also resemble its siblings from the side and back. As yet we don’t have any details about the new one beyond that it is a “full-sized seven-seat SUV” and “created with absolute versatility, capability and technology like no other”.
