New Law Bans Abortions If Fetus Has Down Syndrome

The bill is due to go into effect this summer, but Planned Parenthood plans to ask a court to block the legislation.

Pence called the bill-which has an unprecedented number of restrictions on abortion- a “comprehensive pro-life measure that affirms the value of all human life”.

Under the law, doctors who perform forbidden abortions could be sued for wrongful death or be admonished by the state medical licensing board.

The bill also includes a requirement that aborted or miscarried babies’ bodies be cremated or buried, and a requirement that abortionists who have hospital admitting privileges renew them annually.

Texas lawmakers have passed 13 such regulations between 2011 and 2015 – the constitutionality of aspects of one bill are now being challenged in the Supreme Court – during which time 30 abortion providers in the state have shut down.

Gregg is using Pence’s most recent controversial law to help his campaign, by saying he would have vetoed the bill and concentrated on jobs, infrastructure and education.

“Gov. Pence has always been a champion for the unborn and their mothers”, said Mike Fichter, president and CEO of the pro-life group. Or, more precisely, so long as she doesn’t tell her doctor that she wants an abortion for that reason – it’s unlikely that IN law enforcement has the resources to psychoanalyze every abortion-seeking woman to discover what her true motivations are, which, after all, could be unconscious!

The governor’s office says Pence signed into law Thursday a bill allowing the commission to oversee companies that offer the games where players compete online for cash prizes by picking teams of real-life athletes. They said that the bill goes too far in telling women what they can and can’t do.

The bill, which was approved by the state Republican-led legislature, bans any disability-related abortion along with terminations of pregnancy based on race, gender or national origin.

Fort Wayne Obstetrician/Gynecologist Chris Stroud said the law is a step in the right direction. “So taken together this law makes IN one of the most anti-abortion, hostile to women exercising their constitutional right to choose whether or when to have children IN the nation”.
