New Law Impacts Testing, Teacher Certifications In Oklahoma
“(A) school is so many different things than just can be determined on a standardized test”, said Cline.

The biggest takeaway from the new law may well be that the feds won’t be almost as involved in education at the state level as they once were.
Mr. Obama said the “Every Student Succeeds Act” focuses on ensuring that students graduate from high school and are prepared for college and their careers.
However, students shouldn’t get too excited about the ending of the previous act, they will still be required to take federally standardized tests.
State Education Secretary Pedro Rivera sees the new federal education law, called Every Student Succeeds Act, as being a benefit to students, schools and the state.
States and districts will now be responsible for coming up with their own goals for schools, designing their own measures of achievement and progress, and deciding independently how to turn around struggling schools.
Associate Superintendent YUHSD, Jamie Sheldahl said, “Local school boards will have greater input into how the new law is implemented”.
It will be several months before school districts are able to enact plans created by the state under the new law.
And administrators say the new law won’t only relieve stress from students, before the new act was passed many teachers compensation was affected by how well students performed on their testing scores.
We do take a crack at redesigning teacher evaluations as well, and making that less about high stakes testing and more about the quality of individual teachers on multiple metrics.
The law will change the way teachers are evaluated and how the poorest performing schools are pushed to improve. “Local and state leaders are best positioned to determine policies that affect Alabama’s students because they have direct interaction with parents and teachers in their communities”. States would also have the ability to decide how much weight to assign to each indicator, although graduation rates and test results must be among the heavily weighted factors.
