Carl Greatrix’s super-realistic Caterham Seven LEGO Ideas project got 10,000 supporters and the approval of the company, which will manufacture the kit for real now to arrive in stores later this year.
It’s a neat way to share an idea of a new LEGO set and if the creator receives support from 10,000 people then the set enters the LEGO Review phase. “He’s perfectly captured the classic British sportscar in LEGO bricks and now you’ll be able to own one too”. The Caterham Super Seven block set was put through the paces by the LEGO staff and was greenlit – meaning it’s now going to come to life as an official built-it kit.
“Lego is one of the most iconic toy brands in the world so to have our auto recreated in the legendary bricks is an enormous honour”.
The Caterham set is still under development and LEGO states that the exact details, including pricing and colour options have yet to be confirmed, but it’s expected to be on sale in the United Kingdom later this year. A price and launch date for the Sevens box set is still to be finalised, say Lego. “If you know someone who has always wanted a Caterham Seven, you can now tell them you’re getting them one”.
