People went to “The Angry Birds Movie”, didn’t they? Well, it appears that Halfbrick’s search was fruitful, as New Line Cinema has chose to acquire the rights to turn Fruit Ninja mobile game into a movie.

Developer Halfbrick is sitting on a gold mine, as their mobile game Fruit Ninja achieved more than 1 billion downloads on all platforms. And now, a game about a knife-wielding man with a vendetta against fruit is being turned into a movie. The deal puts producer Tripp Vinson back in business with New Line. Vinson and New Line have worked together on several films in the past, including the 2015 drama San Andreas.

Vinson partnered with Halfbrick Studios and began developing the property as a live-action family comedy based on the best-selling game that revolves around ninjas who slice fruit at a rapid clip. JP Lavin and Chad Damiani are righting the script for the film, which will try to turn the game’s mechanics of slicing fruit and avoiding bombs into an actual storyline.

There’s no release date attached to the Fruit Ninja movie yet, but once pre-production starts progressing further, we should start getting a better picture in our heads of what this project will look like, especially once a director and actors are announced.
