Paisano’s in Albuquerque, New Mexico, featured a sign saying “Black olives matter”.

Camuglia said he’s received phone calls from people around the world, and chose to begin selling “Black Olives Matter’ T-shirts and hats to customers who wanted a souvenir from the restaurant”.

An Albuquerque Italian restaurant has set the Internet on fire with its line of “Black Olives Matters” shirts and hats, with critics castigating what they feel is a flippant play on the “Black Lives Matters” movement and fans urging the business not to back down.

Camuglia told the station that he received a lot of phone calls from people who were really upset about the sign.

He said that he put the slogan on hats and T-shirts because people who supported the restaurant wanted to by a souvenir of sorts from the restaurant.

Days after Paisano’s began selling the merchandise, the phrase “Black Olives Matter” began trending on Twitter, drawing a variety of outrage and Olive-related photoshopped pictures.

Of course there’s a third camp: the jokesters who can always find the humor in nearly any situation.

The original sign that Camuglia put on his marquee sign read: “Black Olives Matter – Try Our Tapenade”.
