New Mexico’s July unemployment rate at 6.4 percent

Iowa’s jobless rate rose slightly to 4.1 percent in July from 4 percent in June as fewer residents were working despite employers expanding their payrolls.

The Henderson County unemployment rate had a mid-summer spike in July, the Texas Workforce Commission reported Friday.

The unemployment rate in 20 states is now significantly below the national rate of 4.9 percent.

Hawaii’s jobless rate was last this high in August of past year.

The unemployment rate figures for the State of Hawaii and the U.S.in this release are seasonally adjusted, in accordance with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) methodology.

Read Saturday’s Arkansas Democrat-Gazette for full details. Hendry County had the highest at 11.7 percent. The numbers include adding 5,000 in July alone, with 6,400 of the 45,700 jobs being within the manufacturing field and 7,700 jobs specifically coming from the construction field.

Over the past 12 months, the county gained 76,000 payroll jobs for a gain of 1.8 percent.

Still, payrolls in the state are expanding faster than in the USA overall: California has added a total of 374,600 jobs in the last 12 months, posting a growth rate of 2.3%.

The number of people in the job market fell by 4,100 and the number who said they had a job fell by 8,500, resulting in 4,400 more people looking for work than in June. The number of unemployed grew by 10 to 1,871 in August.

The other sector reporting major job losses was film and television production, which reported a seasonal drop of 5,000 jobs as many television shows were on summer hiatus. Government employment declined by 700 jobs, largely as a result of seasonal fluctuation at the Department of Education.
