From the familiar feel of West Texas winds to being closer to his three daughters, Texas Tech men’s basketball coach Chris Beard said returning to the school he considers home was too great to resist.

Less than two weeks after accepting the job at UNLV, Chris Beard is heading home to Texas.

Beard said he has landed his dream job, which was to be a head coach at Tech. The likes of Billy Donovan, Dana Altman, Gregg Marshall, Bobby Cremins, and Glen Mason have all followed a similar path. Beard’s previous coaching job was with Arkansas-Little Rock, in which he led the Trojans to a first-round upset win over Purdue in the NCAA Tournament.

He also comes after having his contract at UNLV approved April 8, the same day he changed his Twitter account to reflect his position as coach of the Runnin’ Rebels. Menzies worked as an assistant under Steve Fisher, former UNLV coach Lon Kruger and Rick Pitino before becoming head coach of the Aggies nine years ago.

Beard has amassed a 171-50 record, a. 774 winning percentage and 24.4 victories per season over his seven seasons as a head coach. “Our program achieved tremendous success this year, and I see that as something Chris will build upon and take us to even further heights”.

Had Smith not been looking for work, Texas Tech would have been the guy at the bar looking for any girl to take home at closing time, regardless of her beauty.

After his 10-year stint at Tech, Beard made his way to the American Basketball Association to coach for the South Carolina Warriors. Thats God taking us where were supposed to be, and thats Lubbock, Texas, ” Beard said. Moccia said he plans to conduct the search “quickly, but I’m not going to rush, either”, noting the team isn’t in vital need of filling a roster during the current spring recruiting period like UNLV must do.

Now, he finds himself as the head coach of a Big 12 program coming off of an NCAA Tournament appearance. Amazingly enough, this is now Beard’s fourth coaching job in the last 54 days.
