VA Secretary Robert McDonald said his agency’s Housing First strategy – which helps very low-income Veteran families around the nation find permanent housing – has cut veteran homelessness almost in half since 2010.
A recently awarded grant allows the Kitchen, Inc.to continue providing temporary financial assistance for homeless and at-risk veterans and their families.
The Department of Veterans Affairs awarded approximately $300 million more in grants under the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program to help thousands of very low-income veteran families around the nation who are permanently housed or transitioning to permanent housing, according to a media release. Grantees also provide eligible Veteran families with outreach, case management, and assistance obtaining VA and other benefits, including health care, child care, legal services, and transportation.
