New Nexus 6P-like Huawei phone spotted on TENAA

A new Huawei-branded device, rumored to be the Mate S2, has been spotted passing through TENNA, China’s telecom regulator and the equivalent of the US’ FCC, that looks quite similar to the Nexus 6P launched previous year. Does that mean the Google-branded phones will be cheaper than Samsung’s top Galaxy devices? The most interesting thing about the new device is the way it looks at the back. The handset is believed to be the successor to the Mate S, which was released previous year.

Another difference is the power button positioned below the volume rocker in the Mate S2, whereas the volume rocker sits below the power button on the right edge in the Nexus 6P.

Huawei hasn’t given any official indication that the Mate S2 exists, but considering its appearance on TENNA, we can safely assume that its getting ready to launch the smartphone pretty soon.

Google is all set to step into the smartphone market, as they are planning to launch smartphones under their own brand later this year.

Google released two Nexus handsets a year ago: the Nexus 5X, which was built by LG, and the Nexus 6P, which was built by Huawei. The device is thought to be the second coming of the well-received Nexus 6P and Huawei even confirmed that indeed another Nexus is on the pipeline this year, the report added. If this photo is accurate, Huawei may have made a decision to simply reuse its design of the Nexus 6P for the Mate S2. Like the original Mate S, the Mate S2 will come with a pressure sensitive display. The handset is said to be powered by Kirin 960 chipset and sport a 5.9-inch full HD display.

Unlike the Nexus 6P, the Mate S2 won’t have dual front-facing speakers. The inside too will be nothing short of high-end, headlined by Snapdragon 820 chip and 4GB of RAM. The device release date will happen following the HTC Sailfish and Marlin launch, possibly scheduled between September and October 2016.
