New Orleans Pelicans Have Offered Jason Terry Contract

Jason Terry is reportedly considering a free agent offer from the New Orleans Pelicans, sources told Fox 26.

Jason Terry said he was close to re-signing with the Rockets, but that was also around the time they renounced him. Terry will be entering his 17th season this spring and has contributed to quite a few contenders and an National Basketball Association champion throughout his career so he would bring valuable experience.

The Pelicans, already hard-capped, can offer the bi-annual exception ($2,139,000). He’s played the last three seasons with Boston, Brooklyn and Houston.

The Rockets traded for point guard Ty Lawson in July, and also signed shooting guard Marcus Thornton to join mainstays James Harden and Patrick Beverly in the rotation.

Houston has spent nearly all of their taxpayer mid-level to bring back K.J.

Houston is now offering Terry a veteran minimum contract to return.

The 37-year-old Terry played 77 games last season with Houston with 18 starts. As a taxpaying team the difference between Terry as a minimum contract (costing $947k against the cap and for luxury tax purposes) and $2.139 million (if they could match through an exception I’m not seeing) is significant for the Rockets. He averaged 7.0 points and 1.9 assistant per game in 21.3 minutes.
