New Orleans Saints cut RB CJ Spiller, a healthy scratch last week

It was proven in the New York Giants’ regular season opener against the Dallas Cowboys that the Giants have a very formidable defensive line.

GIANTS WR Odell Beckham, who terrorized Saints with 8-130-3 in Week 8 game last season, was 4-73 receiving in Week 1, including 45-yard catch to set up Giants’ first score. All three made their National Football League debuts on Sunday in the Saints’ one-point loss to the Raiders.

An 0-1 start isn’t the end of the world, but losses in the first two games isn’t how any team wants to start the year off.

While Del Rio has a long way to go before bringing the Raiders back to the glory days of their Super Bowl titles in 70s and 80s, he surely made a statement in the team’s Week 1 win over the New Orleans Saints. He’s out due to a broken fibula.

METAIRIE, La. – The New Orleans Saints have released running back C.J. Spiller, who signed a four-year, $16 million free-agent contract just last season. After a fourth quarter meltdown by the defense, Drew Brees and company will be looking to outscore another potent offense that boasts three quality receivers.

Ed: If you could take one player off the Giants’ roster and put him in the Saints’ starting lineup who would it be?

Everyone remembers a year ago, when the Saints won 52-49. Ironically the wet weather might benefit a Saints defense that will have their hands full from an explosive Giants offense. I’m pretty certain you’ll see another high scoring affair like you did last week.

“If I’m managing the game, or paying attention to what just happened on a punt return, we are far enough along in this process where it is easy for us”, Payton said. “But I think that it’s more hard on the back end if the quarterback has time and is able to sit in the pocket and get to his third and fourth receivers, and that happened a little bit in the second half (against the Raiders)”. He also had a 1-yard carry and three catches for 14 yards and a touchdown on seven targets.

An eight-year veteran, Smith said he had never been benched in the middle of a game before Sunday.

Fans of the New Orleans Saints must look at the bright side. I was costing our team points so coach did what he had to do.

In 1999, Sean Payton was the Giants’ quarterbacks coach under then-head coach Jim Fassel. But Sean Payton indicated Spiller was healthy this offseason and poised for a bigger role, again drumming up excitement of the possibilities for a dynamic dual-threat back in the Saints’ proflific scheme. Williams was a third-round pick in 2015, but missed last season with a hamstring injury.
