New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees Has A Torn Plantar Fascia In Foot
Although the Lions (5-9) were eliminated from playoff contention the previous week at St. Louis, they put together the kind of performance that could serve as a springboard for the final three games of the season and, perhaps, next season.

The Lions’ offense dismantled the New Orleans Saints, 35-27, on a night when quarterback Matthew Stafford could do no wrong. The Saints got a scare when QB Drew Brees came up limping on his right ankle in the first half, but he returned after having his foot taped.
Anderson has not yet made a recommendation to Brees, who is believed to be considering several different treatment protocols, the source said.
Brees was seen wearing a walking boot after the game, and told reporters his MRI was scheduled for Tuesday. Detroit was coming off a 7-point loss to the Rams in their last appearance, while New Orleans beat the Buccaneers in Week 14. So what the Saints have to decide this: Is it worth it to re-sign Brees following his age-37 season or do they try and capture some value in a trade while they still can?
Golden Tate caught two touchdown passes for Detroit. It makes you take a long look at the personnel and think that either the young players will eventually get it or maybe the scheme in place is just frightful and confusing.
And before we dive too much into it, I know every game in the National Football League is “meaningful”.
Detroit (5-9) raced to a 28-3 lead, but Drew Brees threw a pair of touchdown passes – one shortly after a Lions fumble – to help New Orleans (5-9) pull to 28-20 with about 10 minutes left.
“It’s very hard to do that versus air”, head coach Jim Caldwell said of his quarterback after the game. “He was huge for us and spread it around quite a bit”.
The Saints likely won’t comment on the injury until their first injury report on Wednesday. “You have to respect that”, Saints tight end Ben Watson said.
Ameer Abdullah and Joique Bell each ran for more than 70 yards and each scored a touchdown. He will have just six days to clear protocols before the Lions’ next game, which is a tall order for anyone.
Brees passed for 341 yards and three touchdowns Monday night, eclipsing 4,000 yards for a 10th straight season.
With 60,168 passing yards, Brees now trails only Peyton Manning (71,871), Brett Favre (71,838) and Dan Marino (61,361), while his 424 touchdown throws are behind Manning (539), Favre (508) and Tom Brady (427).
Brees hurt his right foot in the first half, but didn’t come out of the game.
“We’ve been able to run it well out of the shotgun, from the pistol, from under center”. Brandin Cooks caught 10 passes for 124 yards and 1 touchdown. He broke his previous single-game best of 137.8 set this year on Thanksgiving vs. Philadelphia.

Protecting a 21-3 lead at the end of the first half, the Lions’ defense also made a critical goal-line stand, holding the Saints without points on five cracks inside the 5-yard line.
